What can I do to help my child?

Help your child establish a routine. Empty your child's backpack nightly, reading through the
agenda message and any papers that have been sent home. Have a set location where
important school papers are kept. Have your child work on nightly reading and a small portion
of the homework packet nightly. Check homework and help your child practice and correct
anything he/she missed. Initial the reading envelope, reading log, and math facts envelope nightly.
Write a note in the agenda or email the teacher if your have questions. Be sure your child tells the
teacher if he/she has an important note that needs to be read. Read, read, read with your child every
night.

What is the agenda planner?

The agenda planner is provided by the PTO, and a small donation is requested of parents to help
defray the costs. It is a great tool for home-school communication. In first grade, students
write a nightly message to help parents be aware of what is going on at school. Parents can also
write notes back to the teacher as long as the child lets the teacher know there is something she
needs to read that day. In grades 3-6, the agenda planner is more detailed and is used as a
homework planner. It is important for students and parents to get in the habit of reading the
agenda planner nightly.

Where should I drop off and pick up my child?

There are drop off points at all of the green gates around the school. The side of the street
closest to the school is for drop-off only (no parking) as is the parking lot nearest to CDI. You
may drop off your child after 7:45 and have him/her go to the playground, where there is
supervision. On rainy days, supervision is in the multi-purpose room. If you wish to accompany
your child, please park in the lot or on the side of the street opposite the school and
use the crosswalks. The first bell rings at 7:55. School begins at 8 a.m. when the second bell rings.
Teachers pick up classes at their assigned spot on the playground between these times. Our class
waits at the first star on the left when facing the grass. If your child arrives after 8 a.m., please have
him/her go through the office to get a late slip before coming to class. Teachers share before and
after school crosswalk and yard supervision duties. On weeks I have duty, I will leave a note outside
my classroom door.

School ends at 2:20 on regular days and 12:30 on minimum days (including all track change
days). Parents are welcome to wait outside of the classroom to pick up children. Please be sure
your child and teacher know who is picking your child up and where. Be aware that I do have
after-school duty some weeks, so I will not be able to wait with your child on these days.
