Teacher Background and Philosophy
I am excited to be guiding your child in their last year at Sims. It
will be a tremendous year of growth as they transition into middle school.
This will be my tenth year teaching at Sims and my twenty-third year as a
teacher.
My educational goals for your children is in line with the district’s
focus which is having each student meet or exceed the California State
Standards and Benchmarks for sixth grade . In every subject area I hold
students accountable to these rigorous standards while also developing the
whole child. My goal is to plan lessons and assessments that empower all
students to achieve their full potential both socially and academically.
I will support their development by being respectful and
compassionate towards them. Students will be held accountable for attaining
high expectations while learning to be problem solvers and productive members
of our community.
As a team we guide, monitor push and encourage your child to do
their personal best to achieve to their highest capacity, but, your child is
ultimately responsible in determining and then enjoying their success this
year as they begin this huge transition to middle school.
Mission For The Class
During sixth grade, students They will stretch their knowledge of the
Mathematical problem solving by learning to write problems and solutions
algebraically. Students will refine their writing through a wide variety of
genres. Reading
comprehension, vocabulary and fluency skills will be improved. Students
will explore history and geography of ancient civilizations of the world in
Social Studies. In science students will learn and apply the scientific
method as they study biomes, plate tectonics, earthquakes and volcanoes.
Students will be expected to work independently and silently for up to
an hour or more when needed; yet, work cooperatively and productively to
complete group activities and projects at other times.
I guarantee your child will be internally challenged and rewarded in
a variety of ways if they always do their personal best. Thank you for the
opportunity to help your child grow and succeed as they begin his/her teenage
years.
