We can’t think of a more rewarding or challenging career than working with
students in a school setting. However, as you can imagine, having many
individual personalities working together can at times lead to conflicts.
We are sure that you agree with us when we say that implementing a specific
discipline plan and making that plan known and understood by all concerned
can prevent most issues from occurring and/or escalating.
The format for our classrooms is a community-oriented program. In order to
ensure that the community runs well, students and teachers must comply with
certain obligations. The following are the obligations for all members of
our community along with examples of what that obligation looks like.
Be prepared: being on time, getting a good night’s rest, eating breakfast,
having sharpened pencils, correcting pen, highlighter, paper, an appropriate
binder/folder, completed homework, and a good attitude.
Be respectful: respecting yourself and others, respecting others’ opinions,
attempts at answers, religion, race, and/or gender. Each person is
responsible to return borrowed property to the owner in the same condition
as it was borrowed. All members of the community will listen attentively
and respectfully without interruption. Interruptions will not be tolerated.
Be resolute: Determination towards a job well done is a great way to reach
intrinsic rewards. It is very important that students learn the importance
of follow-through, whether it is accepting consequences for actions (good or
bad), or completing what you started-never giving up. All members of the
community are expected to uphold their name in this community. And the best
way to do this is to be a person others can count on and trust.
Do your very best: Students are expected to participate and attempt to get
the right answer. Be a risk taker. It is better to try and fail, then not
to try at all. Students’ primary focus is on their own individual growth as
a person. This includes being responsible for ones own actions.
Consequences:
As students are rewarded for appropriate participation students are
also held accountable for NOT following the class/school obligations. To
ensurea fair and consistent program is developed, the following steps will
be utilized:
1st Warning Verbal warning Clear explanation of desired school
behavior is given.
2nd Warning
“pull” behavior card to green Verbal. Teacher verbally, restates
expectations
3rd Warning
“pull” behavior card to yellow Verbal and Loss of 1 recess
Isolation in another room and a time out paper is completed-student
returns to class when the paper is completed. Teacher/student conference @
lost recess
4th & FINAL Warning
“pull” behavior card to red Verbal and Loss of 2 additional recesses
Removal from class to another room for rest of that period. Call parent
ASAP- for phone conference
5th Offence Office Referral for Suspension
If behavior is endangering others, the student will be immediately
removed from the class and sent to office.
Restroom policy: During the school day, there are specific times for
students to take care of their physical needs. Students who find it
necessary to use the restroom during class time will repay the time out of
class, during the morning recess. If your child has a specific medical
need, PLEASE do not hesitate to let me know, and this plan will be revised.
