Instructions for the 2012 Finals Competition
Woo Hoo, the Nature Bowlers have been working very hard this year and as
you know, they will be competing at the Finals Competition on Saturday, May
5. This takes place at Sac State University in the Student Union. Parents of
the fourth graders should plan to bring their children to Sac State NO LATER
THAN 8:00 a.m. in time for team registration and stay till the end at around
12:30. Parents of the fifth and sixth graders should bring their students to
Sac State NO LATER than 12:00 (noon) and plan to stay until approximately
5:30.

Part of the competition is outdoors so please dress accordingly. Sunscreen
and bug spray are also good ideas. Students should bring lunch and plenty of
snacks. I have noticed each year that about half way through the competition
the kids brains need a little protein boost so something to help with that
is good. Students who are doing evironmercials need to bring their posters,
props and costumes and RESOURCE PACKET . And everyone should bring plenty of
water. If your child suffers from allergies, be sure that appropriate
medications are taken.

The Competition happens in the University Union. You should park in
parking structure II. Parking is free for the day.

Nature Bowl Meetings will be held on Thursdays after school
from 3-4 p.m. If you would like to join us bring in a signed permission slip
to Ms. Cooper. If you did not get a permission slip, you can find one in the
Nature Bowl Documents link to the left.
The first meeting will be on Thurs. Oct. 7. In the mean time, please go to
the Nature Bowl Documents link at the left and find the Nature Bowl glossary.
Print a copy to bring to the first meeting. You will need to learn all of
these terms. You can begin making yourself some flash cards on index cards.

Attendance at the meetings is mandatory if you want to be on the Nature Bowl
team. However, there are a couple of people who can not make meetings on
Thursdays after school. So we will have a student run make-up meeting during
lunch time on Thursdays (12:15). See Ms. C. if you need to make arrangements
to attend this meeting.

What is the Nature Bowl?
The Nature Bowl is a cooperative team competition for all 3rd through 6th
grade students. Questions and activities focus on local and regional
environmental science and issues, and correlate with the science content
standards. The Nature Bowl introduces students to environmental issues,
reinforces key science concepts, increases critical thinking skills and
encourages student involvement in community conservation efforts.

Beside's that It's FUN!!

Teams of three to seven students represent their school and
participate in two divisions: 3rd-4th and 5th-6th grades. Nature Bowl
