Please note: You may continue to use this page type if you desire. <P class=MsoTitle style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><STRONG><FONT size=5>Class Participation</FONT></STRONG></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"> <o:p></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><B>Overview:<o:p></o:p></B></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Each day I expect that you will be on time and in your seat when the bell rings, ready to work with your textbook out, notes and writing utensil, as is necessary.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>If you accomplish this, you earn 1 point per day.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The other point is earned through class participation.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Each day, you have the opportunity to earn two points.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN><B>It is incumbent on you to demonstrate active class participation.</B><SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>As a guide, I have provided the following rubric for you to consult in understanding how I evaluate class participation. </P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"> <o:p></o:p></P> <H1 style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=3>Grading Rubric</FONT></H1> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><B>10/10</B> You exhibit outstanding class participation.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>You contribute qualitatively and quantitatively by raising your hand, asking questions, lending clarification to questions, and interrelating topics of study.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The class heard from you multiple times per day.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>You were attentive, engaged with the lesson or topic, and contribute substantially to this learning community.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>You volunteered to read, answered questions, and contributed to group work.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>During class, your materials, including the textbook or handout is present without failure.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>You hand in all work on time, are caught up on the reading, are on task, and are not a distraction to the class. </P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"> <o:p></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><B>9/10</B> You exhibit outstanding class participation.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>You contribute qualitatively like 10/10, yet with less frequency.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Perhaps, one day, you contributed less, forgot your book, or did not engage with the topic or lesson. This is still a top grade.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"> <o:p></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><B>8/10</B> You participated several times per week, but not daily.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>It is more likely that you participated only when called upon.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>When called upon you answered and read well.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>You were on task and not a distraction to the class. </P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"> <o:p></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><B>7/10</B><SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>You arrive to class on time, with your book, but rarely contribute and participate, reluctantly, only when called upon.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Some days the book is missing.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>You were on task, for the most part, and not a distraction to the class.</P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"> <o:p></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><B>6/10</B> You forgot your book more than once, do not participate regularly, when called upon to read aloud or answer, you are confused, because you were not paying attention or are not keeping up with assignments.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>I have had to ask you to focus on the topic or lesson.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"> <o:p></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><B>5 and below/10</B> You have been distracted in the class, often without your book.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>You do not contribute to the class discussion, do not volunteer, and I have been required to ask you to be quite, follow along, or have been late, with some degree of frequency. </P> Automatically clean input to optimize for the web.
