Grades are NOT GIVEN by TEACHERS but EARNED by STUDENTS!
The student's grade is a combination of all class work, homework, projects,
as well as all tests and quizzes. There will be some opportunity for extra
credit (a list of choices is posted in my classroom) but students cannot
earn
more than 50 extra credit points each semester.
Students will receive points for each assignment and those points wil be
converted into weighted grades based on the following categories:
German 1 German 2 German 3,4
participation*: 25% 30% 35%
homework: 25% 25% 20%
tests & quizzes: 40% 35% 35%
projects**: 10% 10% 10%
* includes class participation, A/B partner activities, oral final,
notebooks (all levels) and CPR points (German 3 and 4 only)
** includes all projects and extra credit points
The final grade is determined according to the following percentages:
100% - 90% A
89% - 80% B
79% - 70% C
69% - 60% D
below 60% F
Tests and quizzes are given regularly and are usually announced. Pop
quizzes may be given if homework is not taken seriously or if I receive a
bad report from a substitute.
Upon request, or if a student is having difficulties in the class, I will
send home an individual student grade printout at regular intervals. This
printout will list each grade the student earned until that point in the
class as well as the current overall grade. It needs to be signed by a
parent or guardian and returned to me as soon as possible.
If you have any questions regarding your son or daughter's grade, please
contact me through e-mail (dpicciotta@fjuhsd.net) or call me at school
(562)266-5252. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
