First Grade Parents,
You have a great opportunity to be involved with the learning activities going on in our classroom by taking part in a daily homework ritual. Each Friday children will receive a homework packet in their CAMP Book. The completed packet is due the following Friday. All homework assignments are expected to take no more than 30 minutes to complete. If your child is consistently taking more than 30 minutes to complete his or her homework, please contact me immediately and we will make adjustments.
MONDAY - THURSDAY (5 minutes)
*Check Reading Folder for small guided reader. Students read this book to the family and returns it the next day.
MONDAY & TUESDAY
READING COMPREHENSION (5-10 minutes)
* Students read aloud a short reading passage to their parents.
* Students answer a few questions related to the reading.
(parent help may be needed with this at the beginning of the year).
* Parents receive a note each week that explains the assignment.
* Both parents and students sign at the top of the homework page.
WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY
FAST START (5-10 minutes)
Each week your child will have one short poems and related “family pages”.
* Read to your child,
* Read with your child,
* Listen to your child read!
* Complete one or two activities from the “family page”.
MONDAY-THURSDAY
DOLCH WORDS (5-10 minutes)
Please practice reading the Dolch words with your child daily.
MATH (5-10 minutes)
Math homework is usually only given prior to a test as a review and a reminder to let you know that there will be a math test the following day. Occasionally, I will give math homework at other times if I feel the class needs extra practice on a particular topic.
NUMBER FAMILIES
(5-10 minutes)
Please practice memorizing Number Families daily with your child.
