Technology Update Lake View School enters it's second year as a Smart Showcase School in September. In 2008. Smart Technologies recognized our school for the educational applications that are being integrated in all classrooms. We are proud to be a front runner in technology in this digital age of learning. The award also comes with $27,000 worth of technology for our school. Lake View School has Smartboard Technology in every classroom. Teachers are utilizing interactive lessons across all subject areas. With the touch of a finger students are identifying new vocabulary words, labeling the parts of a plant, or charting vowels. Most recently, we are using “Senteo’ in our fourth and fifth grade classrooms. This is a small device that looks similar to a television remote control. It allows the teacher to assess student learning immediately, adjust instruction and insure 100% of students are on task and involved in the learning process. The procedure is simple. Each child has a student responder at their desk. The teacher presents a new concept and throughout the instruction presents questions to the students. Using the responder every student sends the teacher their answer. The answers are tallied on the teacher’s computer. Immediately, the teacher has an assessment of which students need additional instruction. This system allows every child the opportunity to respond. Those students who are typically shy or slow to respond are provided an equal opportunity to answer. Students who often lose focus are engaged and involved through the use of the responders. Most importantly, the teacher has immediate feedback which guides instruction and assures the most effective use of instructional minutes.
