School Safety
District Parent Information Page
Helping your child during a crisis or tragedy, either within your own family or on a national scale, is a significant parental challenge. Shortly after the tragic events on the east coast, the Superintendent placed on the District’s website some links to various resources that might be of assistance to you now and in the future. Currently the link is on the homepage and under the Parent Information tab. In a few days the link will be removed from the homepage, but will remain permanently under the Parent Information tab. In addition, please be reassured that each school in the District has had well established, well-practiced and effective classroom security procedures in place. Notwithstanding this we are all reevaluating our systems. Furthermore, the District has contracted with a school security expert and will be working with our Facilities Director to evaluate our facilities and make recommendations.

Laurel School Extended Day Learning Center
The goal of the Extended Day Learning Center is to provide an engaging learning environment that builds on a child's confidence, and where age appropriate, motivating academics and life skills are supported. This collaborative opportunity between school, home, and community provides a secure place and an enriching program that meets the needs of working parents/guardians and students alike. The program will operate from August 2, 2011 through June 7, 2012 this school year.
The program offers enrichment classes/support at a students current school site that include curriculum support for grades Kinder-5th, art, music, physical activity, sports, play time, free time for exploring, learning and sharing, science, drama, crafts, peer tutoring, book clubs and life skill practice. Students spend the first part of their after school day having a snack and then working on homework followed by other fun activities. The program provides a comfortable, stress-free setting with a paraprofessional available to help students with homework questions and projects. The EDLC incorporates consistent teaching strategies that are practiced through the District.
