Homework

The best way to keep track of your homework in science is to check your Lee Planner AND the homework section of your "Goals and Activities" sheet every day. Your Lee Planner can have a very brief description of your homework, as well as due dates for any long term projects. The Goals and Activities sheet is your science calendar for the week. It should have detailed descriptions of your homework and should be in your binder at all times. It is turned in on Mondays, as a cover sheet for your work packet from the previous week. All classwork and homework is collected on Mondays. The packets are then graded and returned the following Monday.

For students who have been absent or for parents who wish to check on their child's homework but do not have access to their child's Goals and Activities sheet, I do daily updates of homework. Obviously, this will be of limited value if the homework requires a paper handed out in class, and the student does not have that paper. Similarly, if the homework requires detailed information that we learned in class that day, completing the assignment may be very difficult for a student who was not there.

Daily homework is listed below:

Mon. Nov. 2

Study for the quiz tomorrow on Chap. 1, Sec. 3

Tues. Nov. 3
None

Wed. Nov. 4
  • If you have not done so, get a parent/guardian signature on the science grade report that I handed out on Monday.
  • You can still make up missing assignments from earlier in the semester to improve your semester grade.

Thur. Nov. 5
None, unless you have missing assignments.

Fri. Nov. 6
None, unless you have missing assignments.

Mon. Nov. 9
Students should graph all of the Lung Capacity Lab data for their class period.  Today, I handed out the data table for each period, which must be saved and turned in with the lab.  Each of the 30 or so data points should be accurately placed on a neat, clear, and completely labeled graph.  I spent quite a bit of time in class showing everyone how to set up and label the graph, and each student was given a piece of graph paper.  This should be completed by tomorrow, when we will discuss the graph, write our conclusions, and turn the entire lab in.

Tues. Nov. 10
None

Thur. Nov. 12
If not already completed in class, finish the calculations for volume and density of the wood blocks from today's lab.  Then, answer the question thoroughly (part 4).

Fri. Nov. 13
    • No new homework, but some students have missing assignments that they should be working on.  Check my grades page.
    • We finished calculations, discussion, and conclusions for Density Lab #1.  Ask your student to see their lab sheet, along with the class data page showing the densities for all 18 blocks.  Some students have still not turned in their Lung Capacity Lab.  Check my grades page some time late on Friday or the weekend to see if your student turned their lab in.

Mon. Nov. 16
Study for the Science Benchmark Test on Thursday.  It will cover:
  • Chap. 2, Sec. 1 & 2, p. 58-72
  • Chap. 3, Sec. 1 & 2, p. 90-102
I recommend studying all of the vocabulary terms in those sections, as well as making sure you understand the key concepts (green and yellow key).  If you have time, re-read both chapters and study your workbook questions from those sections.

Tues. Nov. 17
In addition to the two chapters above, study sections 1, 2, and 3 of Chapter 1 (p. 6-26) for the Science Benchmark test on Thursday.

Wed. Nov. 18
  • Finish any calculations or questions from today's density lab.
  • Study for the Science Benchmark Test tomorrow.  See Monday and Tuesday (above) for specifics.

Thur. Nov. 19
No new homework.  However, the one week vacation would be an excellent time to take care of some missing assignments.  Get worksheets, notes, or lab data that you might need from me tomorrow, as well as any explanations for assignments.  Keep in mind that I might be able to talk with you one-on-one during some classes tomorrow, and for other classes we may just be too busy (in which case you may need to come after school for longer conversations).

Fri. Nov. 20
Same as above.  I am reminding kids today in class to get stuff they might need from me today.

Mon. Nov. 30

       No new homework.

Tues. Dec. 1
We began the "Two Cubes and a Slab" Density Lab today.  Some students may have reached the point where they could calculate the density of the three objects, but most have not.  Tomorrow's homework will be the individual and class data analysis.
