SEARCH ENGINES AND DIRECTORIES
Using your handbook, "Spotlight on the Internet," go to page 48 and complete Lesson 4-1. You will create a document in MS Word, saveas "your name search engines." Complete pages 48-53. Type your answers to questions from these pages in your document. Remember to setup and format correctly. Your name must appear at the top of your electronic page along with date, period, and teacher. See example for help.

PowerPoint Endangered Animals Project
In this assignment, you will search the internet to find sites that will provide you with useful information about an endangered animal of your choice. Follow the directions below to get started on your research assignment as part of your PowerPoint Project – Endangered Animals.
Directions – follow these steps
- Pick an endangered species from one of the sites below.
Ø Fish & Wildlife Service www.fws.gov
Ø World Wildlife Fund http://worldwildlife.org/
- Open a blank Microsoft Word file and save it as “Your last name, first initial, Animal Research.”
- Now use a search engine or directory like www.kids.yahoo.com, www.kidsclick.org, www.askforkids.com, www.google.com, or www.ipl.org or others to find websites on your topic. Practice the techniques to find different and specific sites that will help you gather information about your whole topic.
- After your get a list of possible websites (hits), view some of these (first 1-2 pages) to see if you can find the information you will need for your project. See below for the questions you will be answering in your PowerPoint about your endangered animal:

□ What are the feeding habits?
□ How does this animal have young (reproduce)?
□ What is the population?
□ Where is the animal found in the world?
□ What is being done to help this species survive?
□ Who is a scientist associated with your topic?
- Once you find a site that will provide detailed and specific information about your topic, copy the URL into your Word file you created above. Then you may copy & paste some notes from each site to use in your project.
You should find 8-10 websites that offer good research information about your topic and list them (as mentioned above) into your Word file. The more you have the better off you will be later (HINT).
