Generally, students who have an active IEP and need help in their CORE
subjects. Sometimes we have students who are coming in for intervention but
they are mostly students who we will be testing during the school year.

Will my child be made fun of for going to the Learning Center?

Bullying is not tolerated at Leffingwell. Besides, the students in the
Learning Center are of average intelligence and some general ed. students
come as well.

What about homework?

It depends on how much time your child spends in the LC. If they come for
Language Arts, they will need to do reading log for the Gen. Ed teacher,
spelling assignment and occasionally another short assignment. For math,
they usually have 1-2 pages per night. They also need to continue to work on
their math facts nightly. They do not need to complete the other Gen. Ed
assignments for math or language arts.

What about Social Studies and Science?

Some modifications may be made for these two subjects. We frequently work
with them on these areas when they have projects especially if it requires a
lot of writing.

What if a problem comes up?

By all means, email or call me. Email is the best way to reach me the
quickest. If you don't get a reply within a short time, know that I'm
researching the answer.

If my child has an IEP, how long can he get help?

As long as he needs it up to age 25. Every year there is a review of goals
and every 3 years, a complete evaluation. Colleges also honor IEP's which
can sometimes make all of the difference between success and failure.
