August 2009,
Welcome back! You are in my first grade classroom. We will be the Terrific
Turtles! Our classroom number is room 8. Look for the turtle crossing sign
on the door. Our classroom has a pet turtle named Scuddles. She is a
Western Box turtle that has been with me for thirteen years.
We will be studying many themes through out the year. We start off
with apples, Johnny Appleseed, and we participate in an Apple Feast. In
October we learn about scarecrows, pumpkins, and bats. Your first field trip
will be to the Pumpkin Patch. Colonial Day is held in November and we all
dress up as pilgrims. In December we learn about all the different holiday
celebrations and participate in Christmas around the World. January we study
snow. In February we celebrate all the different holidays like Groundhog’s
Day, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, 100th Day of School, and Chinese New
Year. We build leprechaun traps in March. The year ends with learning about
space.
I want to invite you to the Back to School BBQ on Friday August 21st
at 5:30pm. In your envelope is a turtle sticker to wear at the barbeque.
Make sure you look for other boys and girls who are wearing the same turtle
sticker because they are in your class!
Let your parents know that they need to come to class with you the
first day of school for the first 10 minutes to share a first day survival
bag with you.
Here is the first grade team website where you and your family can find
information about events, upcoming dates, and the classroom newsletter.
