Newletter for the week of September 8, 2008
Hello Parents,
I hope that you had a wonderful time at the Back-to-School Bar-b-q. We are in the third week of
school and many of your children are beginning to understand and follow the routine of the
classroom.
Reminders for the week:
The “Goop” needs to arrive at school on Friday, in order to do the relief map of the United
States. The recipe is included at the bottom of this letter. The parents that signed up to help
with the relief maps will be needed from 10:45-12:15 on Friday. Please come to the room. I'll
see you then. Thank you for your help ahead of time.
Book orders are due by Friday, September 11th. Please send the completed order form and a check
for the correct amount made out to Scholastic Books. If you would like to order on-line, please
follow the directions that were sent home.
There will be a map test on Thursday. Your student will have a Study Guide in his/her map folder
to study. Please help your student be prepared on Thursday. A continent/ocean quiz will be given
on Tuesday.
The end of the first unit in math is fast approaching, also. Monday, September 15th, will be the
date of that test. We will be finishing the unit this week and doing a test review.
Map poetry presentations will be on Thursday. Please help your student be prepared for that day
by practicing at home.
Please keep reviewing the planners and help your child develop the responsibility for completing
his/her work. The reading calendar should be filled in nightly. It will be turned in at the end
of the month. I appreciate all your “at home” efforts.
Blessings to each of you,
Linda Garton
Relief Map Goop Recipe!
Hello Parents~
I would like to let you know that on September 12th, we will be making relief maps of the United
States. I need each student to bring in "Goop" (already made up) in a plastic baggie labeled
with his/her name on it. Please have it sent to school with your child on September 12th.
Thank you so much!
Recipe for "Goop"
1˝ cups of flour
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup water
1˝ tablespoons of oil
Directions: Mix the salt and flour together. Gradually stir in the water and oil until the
dough becomes elastic. If the mixture becomes too sticky or too dry, add more flour or water as
needed.
Have Fun!
