Newsflash

Newsletter for the month of October

Dear Parents,

Our classroom student council representatives are Rebecca Philip and Danielle Nam. Congratulations to them both.

We will be continuing our study of Native Americans in social studies. The students enjoyed the Youth Science Institute centers on the Ohlone Indians. They were able to grind acorns and examine other native foods, play some Ohlone games, and experience weaving with tule. The next Native American group we will be studying is the Plains Native Americans.

In science, we will complete our study of bats and then move on to the study of the moon and stars. Attending the CTC documentary on “Apollo to the Moon” in November will be an exciting addition to our study.
The class will be having the final chapter test on addition and subtraction October 7th. Chapter 3 teaches units of measurement, both standard and metric. It can be difficult for some of the students and extra attention to daily homework would be helpful for your child.

The national park mini reports were a hit. The students did such a nice job on the illustrations for their park. I am going to be saving them to put out at Open House in February so that you can enjoy seeing all the different parks represented. The completed grading rubric was sent home on Friday.
