NewsFlash

Hello Parents,

Our student council is sponsoring a collection drive for Samaritan Purse. LACS is collecting shoeboxes that are filled with gifts for children in third world countries. These boxes will be distributed to children in need at Christmastime.  If your student and/or family would like to participate, the boxes will be collected from November 9th- 20th. For further details look at www.samaritanspurse.org If anyone needs an empty extra shoebox let me know.

The elementary school's first Spirit Day "Olden Days, Thankful Days is next Wednesday, November 18th."   Please have your child show his/her school spirit and wear something from 1970s or before.   If your child is not wearing an outfit for sprit day he/she must still wear the regular school uniform.

A copy of my updated conference schedule is up on the announcement page of my webpage, in case you forget the time you picked.

The students’ Heifer Project International posters were wonderfully done! The school will be using the PowerPoint versions on the big screens in Chapel from time to time during the year. The hand drawn posters will be posted around the school remind everyone that our Chapel offering this year goes to the Heifer Project and the work that the Heifer Project does around the globe.

All 5th graders are striving to join the 50 States Club. By May, 2010 members must be able to identify the location of the 50 states on a map of the United States and be able to identify those states’ capitals. The rewards for being able to accomplish this are (1) personal satisfaction of a job well done; (2) their names will be published in the school newsletter upon completion of each level in The 50 States Club; and (3) a grade equal to a History test grade. Tests will be given once a month.   Practice pre-test(s) on History page of website. Students can study for the 50 States Club tests by practicing identifying the states on the pre-tests I hand out. They may also practice on several websites, such as the ones below:

 www.Sheppardsoftware.com/web_games.htm

www.maps.com/freestuff/aspx (go to map games section of the site)

 www.lizardpoint.com/fun/geoquiz/usaquiz.html

  www.ilike2learn.com/ilike2learn/unitedstates.html

 www.ilike2learn.com/ilike2learn/CapitalUnitedStates.html

The children continue to study Science this coming week. Please support your child in getting each part of their Science Fair Project done on time so that it does not become an overwhelming experience.

Remember to please help your children to print out and outdate their planners with next week’s homework this weekend. Each student should learn how to do this on his/her own over the next few weeks. They will be responsible for updating their planners this way during the year. Check Mrs. Hibbert’s website for Science homework.

Blessings,

Dwin
