COURSE DESCRIPTION The Spanish A&B Class will prepare students for effectiveness life situations such as shopping, traveling, obtaining services and repairs, and to be able to verbally communicate their basic feelings, needs and desires. The Spanish A Class is offered to students with no previous knowledge of the language. We will be emphasizing the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. The Spanish B Class is designed for students who have completed Spanish 1A, so they can continue developing their skills through more complex vocabulary and grammar concepts. A large portion of their grade will be based on Class Participation and Homework. Students will have the opportunity to use and practice the language throughout various activities, as well as to memorize God’s Word in Spanish. One of my goals is to help our students learn to lead someone to Christ in Spanish. In addition to the curriculum content we will include learning Scripture and a variety of extra curricular activities. Students will need a binder or a section aside for Spanish in one of their binders. 5 Tabs are required to be labeled as follows: VOCABULARIO (Vocabulary), TAREA (Homework), CULTURA (culture), GEOGRAFIA (Geography) and EXAMENES (Quizzes/Tests). A Spanish/English dictionary is recommended, mostly to be used at home. A Bible in Spanish will be needed once a month for CLUB DE BIBLIA (Bible Club) a Bible Application is also acceptable since we will be using cell phones for a short period of class time and text greetings and short conversations in Spanish (NEW) CURRICULUM SPANISH 1A/B Prentice Hall REALIDADES A/B Textbook Prentice Hall REALIDADES A/B Workbook & CD-ROM Prentice Hall REALIDADES A/B Writing, Audio & Video Workbook Prentice Hall REALIDADES A/B DVD Program Prentice Hall REALIDADES A/B Audio Program Prentice Hall REALIDADES A/B Fine Art GRADING The grading on the report cards will be: A+ = 100 A = 94 A- = 90 B+ = 87 B = 84 B- = 80 C+ = 77 C = 74 C- = 70 D+ = 67 D = 64 D- = 60 F = 59 Special assignments will be graded with a higher percentage. Class participation and homework are essential elements in learning a foreign language because they put grammatical principles into practice. HOMEWORK All Spanish homework and news will be available at http://teacherweb.com/CA/LosAltosChristianSchool/Spanish/h0.aspx I will not accept late homework. Students will have plenty of time to complete homework. (full week) Assignments will be given on Mondays and should be turned in the assigned date (following Monday). I expect all homework to be neat and clear. Illegible homework will be returned to you and you will have to resubmit it if you want credit for the work. Legible handwriting and correct spelling are important. A few letters in a word can change person, gender, tense, or number. On all of your assignments write your name, date, and the class in the upper right corner. Homework without name will have 10% deducted from the grade. Keep all your graded homework for at least a quarter. It will not only serve as an excellent tool when you are studying for exams, but it will also give you proof that you completed the assignment should there ever be an error in your grade. QUIZES/TESTS You will have a vocabulary quiz every other week on Fridays, during the first ten minutes of class. If you are tardy, you will not have extra time to take the quiz. It is your responsibility to come to class on time. CLASS GUIDELINES Respect: You must be respectful to your classmates and your teacher. I will not tolerate defiant behavior or students who make fun of others, or prevent other students from learning by being disruptive. I will respect you and treat you with dignity. Courtesy: Only one person may speak at a time. If I am talking or if another student is asking a question, I expect you to listen. Punctuality: You are expected to be in your seat by the time class is scheduled to begin. CONSEQUENCES IF YOU DON’T FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES 1.Written Notice to School Office 2.Student/Teacher conference 3.Sent to School Office 4.Call Home 5.Suspension Note: Any serious acts of disobedience may get a student an immediate referral to the Office and possible dismissal from class. I will respond promptly to your e-mails. My goal is for each student to have a wonderful year in this class and to learn as much as possible.
