Thank you all for coming to Open House on Thursday! It was wonderful for the children to get to share all of their hard work with you.
This week we continued with our Fabulous Farm unit! We also have been busy practicing for our Farm Play! Please practice your child’s lines at home.
Language Arts/Social Studies
We read the story of the Little Red Hen this week and practiced retelling the story using puppets. The Little Red Hen finds wheat seeds and asks her friends, “Who will help me?” The cat, dog, and mouse repeatedly respond with, “Not I!” so the Little Red Hen does all the work and eventually makes a cake. When it is time to eat it and the Little Red Hen asks, “Who will help me?” the characters respond with, “I will!” but the Little Red Hen enjoys her cake alone because she did all of the hard work! We wrote about the characters, setting, problem and solution in this story. The children also wrote their own version of this story where they got to choose their own animals and what they needed help with. We made Little Red Hen tear art to go along with our story.
We worked on our short vowel sounds this week and sorted words with /a/, /e/, /o/, and /u/ in the middle.
Math
We continue to work with counting coins. We know the values of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. Keep working at home, this is a very hard concept.
We work hard on combinations of 5 and number recognition up to 30. We also continue to practice addition and subtraction.
