Announcements

All Matthew Turner teachers will be following the Setting Limits classroom management program.  The program is based on teaching students to respectfully follow school rules or suffer the logical consequences for breaking those rules.  I will explain more on August 30 at Back to School Night and am available to answer your questions at 751-2320 or via email.

We take snack breaks every morning during the 10 minutes before recess.  It is very important that you send only HEALTHY SNACKS!  Students may bring crackers, cheese, yogurt, fresh fruit, small sandwiches, nuts, popcorn, or granola bars.  Please do not send them with chips, cookies, or other low nutritional value snacks.  We do not drink anything in the classroom but water--the ant problem at Turner is huge.  Students may bring a pop-up top water bottle.  During the hot weather, it is really important for them to drink lots of water.  We also have a drinking fountain in the class room for students' use.

What about student BIRTHDAYS?  We still encourage healthy choices, but we will make an exception to the rule and allow cookies or cupcakes if students wish to share them with the whole class on their special day.  Please let me know in advance if you wish to drop off treats for your child's birthday.  You may send them in before school or drop by before snack time.  We currently have 25 students in the class.

CELL PHONES may be brought to school in student backpacks for those whose parents may need to communicate with them AFTER school.  All phones must remain off and in backpacks during class.
Deliveries of lunches, jackets, homework, etc must be left in the office.  We do not want instructional time in our classes to be unnecessarily interrupted.

STAY HOME WHEN SICK!  Those with flu-like symptoms should stay home at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever without the use of fever reducing medicines.  We will be vigilant about hand washing and covering coughing and sneezing in the classroom.  Donations of Hand Sanitizer are welcome--we will use it before eating snack and lunch.

GRADING POLICY:  We give letter grades on 3rd grade report cards.  We use the following percentages: 100-90=A,  89-80=B,  79-70=C, 69-60=D, and 59-- = F.  You will usually see the percentages rather than grades on many of the papers that come home.  I also use a Star or Happy Face on nongraded papers.  I also use a plus, check, or minus on some papers.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS: I welcome classroom helpers!  If you would like to volunteer, please register with the office and send me a note about your availability.  I would like to have a helper for checking homework and review problems with students.  I always appreciate help correcting worksheets.  We also need a room parent (or two), a garden volunteer, an auction project volunteer, and an art docent volunteer.

PARENT CONTACT/INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR CHILD:  I am sending home a form for you to complete so I have your email(s) and some additional information about your child.  Please complete and return it.
