During the school year, each student will maintain a Social Studies Notebook to record information about history.completed notebook. To create and maintain a Social Studies Notebook, students must bring these materials to class each day, however, the Social Studies Notebook will remain in class: · A three inch 8 1/2-by-11-inch 3-ring notebook (a one and two inch is too small) (The binder remains in the classroom on the appropriate shelf) · Tab dividers labeled: Islamic Civilization Africa Crusades/Europe China Japan Maya, Aztec, Inca (if time allows) (Type the labels and cut them to fit the notebook dividers. Tape the ends so the labels don’t fall out) ·Pens with black ink for map making and writing(keep a supply of pens with you) ·Many pencils with an eraser (keep a supply of pencils with you) ·Two highlighter pens of different colors ·Colored pens. The Pentel Color Pens have proved to offer the best results for students. This is essential. Keep a set at home so one is with you each day. ·Colored pencils for maps. ·Glue sticks—keep one or more that works all year! These are used frequently. ·A container for all of these (purse, backpack, vinyl packet) Your success in the unit tests in social studies depend on an up-to-date notebook. Don’t leave it until the end of the unit to put your papers in the notebook. Papers are often lost. You may not use another’s notebook for the unit tests. LABEL YOUR SUPPLIES WITH YOUR NAME! If you run out of your basic supplies, replenish them as soon as possible. Be an independent learner and not rely on others to give you pencils, paper, and pens. Take responsibility for your own work in the classroom. Borrowing disrupts the flow of the class and shortens the learning time in the period. Remember, if you have difficulty obtaining these items, the school will provide them. You must see me after school to discuss materials you need. English: Class ·A small 3-ring notebook with 3 index tab dividers for: ·Literature: Class Novels and Short Stories ·Writing ·Vocabulary/Grammar/Spelling ·Six (6) to twelve (12) manila/colored file folders ·A supply of notebook paper ·A Front View Display Book with 24 transparent pockets for a writing portfolio. This portfolio will preserve your seventh grade work and will go home at the end of the year. Bring before March 2010. ·Colored post-its for literary references: select different colored pads to reflect setting, character(s), theme, plot development, climax, resolution (ending). ·Pens (black or blue ink only) Work will not accepted in pastel, silver, gold colored pens. ·Pencils with an eraser (keep a supply with you). ·Come to school prepared. Avoid borrowing from your friends! Replenish your supplies as you need new materials. If you lose an item such as a pencil, get another one. Be prepared for each class—each day. One problem area is with colored pens. You may not borrow from someone else during the class period. Have your own supply. ·You will need to be prepared and successful. Add these to your study area ·A dictionary and a thesaurus ·A supply of white construction paper board, 12” x 18” for assigned projects. You may select other colors to back your work
