- Finish part one of _Of Mice and Men_ for Tuesday(1,3,4)/Wednesday(6). There
will be a reading quiz!
- Due Thursday(1)/Friday(3,4,6): a collage representing either George or
Lennie from _Of Mice and Men_. See links page for a link to "How to Make a
Collage." Some notes:
- Use magazine, newspaper, and other print sources for pictures and words
(no electronic/computer images)
- Feel free to experiment with other materials
- Use a sturdy background (like construction paper)
- Finished product should be approx. 8.5X11 inches

Write this as a bullet list or other graphic organizer, including:
- WHO S/HE IS (physical description, important relationships,
"job," strength)
- WHY S/HE IS WRITING
- WHAT ADVERSITY S/HE FACES
-Notebook # 22: Developing the narrator of your chronicle – Due Session 1 next

- 1/2 hour of reading daily
- Notebook #18: Three Thoughtful Discussion Questions about "Flowers for
Algernon." Write each question and a 3-5 sentence explanation (for each
question) why it will make for a good discussion. DUE SESSION 2!
- Essay Quiz about "Flowers for Algernon" (done in class SESSION 3)

Week of October 13-17
- 1/2 hour of reading daily
- Notebook #15: Write two progress reports (at least 100 words EACH) from Miss
Kinnian's perspective (one before Charlie's operation, one from after). Due
Session 2.
- Study for the vocab quiz (Session 3)
- Notebook #16: Write six meaningful sentences, using one vocab word in each
- 3 sentences use the word in a way that is obviously correct
- 3 sentences use the word in a way that is obviously incorrect
- Notebook #17: Reading Reflection.
Choose ONE of the following (EXCEPT the option you chose for NB#9) and write
100-200 words:
-Pick a character from your book and describe him/her in detail
-Compare the book you are currently reading to another book you
have read
-Describe the first sentence of your book and write about why
you think the author starts out the way s/he does
Week of October 6-9
- READ, READ, READ! Take advantage of this week without notebooks to enjoy
some good reading me.
- Revise timeline letters (in class) and turn in final draft Thursday.
Week of September 29-October 3
- 1/2 hour reading daily (2.5 hours per week)
- Notebook #13: Sympathize with Charlie (150-200 words, DUE Session 4)

- 1/2 hour reading daily (2.5 hours per week)
- Notebook #10 (started in class): Taking an Intelligence Test - due Session 3
- Notebook #11: A Special Someone - due Session 4
> In 100-300 words describe someone you admire (for their warmth,
understanding, kindness,
etc.) but who has had little formal education. If you cannot think of anyone,
you can interview a
parent or another adult and describe the person based on that discussion.
- Notebook #12: Reading Reflection - due Session 1 next week
> Look back at the goal you set for yourself at the beginning of the
trimester (NB#2).
In approximately 100 words, describe your reading habits since school started
this year. Be
honest. Are you reading for 2.5 hours per week? If not, why not? Are you
enjoying your reading?
