INTRODUCTION

Welcome back to Miller Creek!

Because music is such an important part of every human culture, I've always believed that music
education is necessary for us to grow as creative, expressive and conscientious people. In chorus,
each student will learn to use their voice--the most personal of musical instruments--as part of a
team effort to create music that is meaningful, entertaining and artistic. Students will also become
musically literate, and will regularly develop their melodic and rhythmic sightreading skills.

We will perform frequently as a chorus: two school concerts this year, a rated choral festival in the
spring, performances in the community, and field trips. The DSD Music Department is still in the
process of finalizing our performance calendar, and I will notify everyone as soon as the schedule for
the year is set.

My email is crieder@marin.k12.ca.us (but please note the spelling of my last name; people often spell
it incorrectly). Email is the most reliable way to reach me, as I travel to the district elementary schools
after third period each day.

More information about this year's activities will go out over the next couple of weeks. The talent we
have in chorus this year is incredible, and I look forward to a fun year of making music together!

Best,

Christopher Rieder
