FAQ Student Schedules / Changes

Frequently Asked Questions about Student Schedules

1. How were my child¹s classes selected?

Classes are assigned to students based on academic needs, student interest, and teacher availability. Elective classes are assigned by a lottery, with preference given to 8th grade students.

2. What do I do if my child would like to change classes?

In order to resolve scheduling conflicts or concerns in a timely manner, we have established a timeframe for dropping or adding of classes for Miller students. The schedule change request time frame is August 10-August 21st.

As we consider schedule change requests, we will adhere to the Miller Middle School policy as stated in the student planner. Please note that we do not alter student schedules based on teacher preference.

Schedules are carefully prepared according to educational needs and elective requests. No schedule change will be considered unless there is a sound educational reason. Parent permission is required before changes are made. (Miller Student Planner).

3. My student and I have reviewed the Miller policy and we would still like to request a schedule change. How do I request a schedule change?

Please obtain a schedule change request slip in the main office or online. These slips will be available beginning on August 10th.  Counselors will not schedule individual meetings to discuss schedule changes or take email requests for changes.

4. How long until I know if my student’s  schedule will be changed?

Please complete a schedule change request and the appropriate counselor will contact you regarding the request via email or telephone.  Counselors will need a few days until they can respond to your request.

5. My child is planning to take the CUSD Challenge Test.  If he/she passes the Challenge Test, do I need to submit a schedule change request?

Student schedules will reflect the math course they have been assigned at the end of the 08-09 academic year.  If your child passes the CUSD Challenge Test, your Counselor will alter your student’s schedule and contact you to pick up the new course schedule.
