with civic education themes. It examines issues from across the curriculum with a focused, coherent,
central theme of citizenship. The success of the program lies within the student-centered activities
and participation in discussions on topics of relevance and importance. Academy- elected student
officials run council meetings according to Robert’s Rules of Order, as these “Civic Thinkers” examine

6th Grade Civics Academy: (Mr. McLemore English and Social Studies and Civic Elective)
 Students will explore the beginnings of citizenship and the advancement of democracy in Ancient
Civilizations.
