Ohlone College concurrent enrollements:

Frequently asked questions

1.When is the deadline for our registration?

I believe that registration will close end of next week, but Valerie should know the specific date. The process should be completed as soon as possible.

2. Why would we want to take Japanese for ohlone credit and how will this help us?

Concurrent enrollment allows a student to get both high school and college credit for a course with minimal cost. What you are doing is beginning your college career while still in high school-a definite plus!

3. Are we permitted to cancel the credit at anytime? And if so, does it still show up on one's transcript?

There are really two questions here.

#1 Your high school transcript will only show courses taken at Mission. So, Japanese will be on your Mission transcript with the high school code and your semester grades. You will need to request a transcript from Ohlone's registrar to be sent to the college of your choice with your Ohlone grades.

#2 The add/ drop time for Ohlone is similar to the one at Mission. Adding or dropping a class without penalty is limited to a set time and the deadline may or may not have passed for Ohlone, it has passed for Mission so any schedule change requests now would mean an "F" in the class on your transcript.

4. What is the point of getting college credit and high school credit at the same time?

The advantages are many! First, it is not that often that high school students get the opportunity to receive college credit AS WELL AS high school credit AT THE SAME TIME with no extra effort!!!!!!! Secondly, having college credits now will allow you to spend your money and time on classes you need in college! No one can take college credit away from you, while high school credit disappears once you graduate. Third, college credits have no time limitations. Courses taken are credited where ever you go now or in thefuture.

5. Could all staff that has experience with synonomous credit for a highschool course please come and help us with this process?

yes.... also Ms. Fernandes from Ohlone will be delighted to come and help also

6. Can ohlone credit be transferred to a private college?

Ohlone is considered a college. Your credits transfer to ANY school but depending on your major may count towards elective units or graduation requirements or ...... but they do count

7. Will the college grade be weighted?

no-universities do not weight grades (neither does Mission by the way)

8. We are currently missing the health forms and admissions & registration forms. How do we gain acess to them?

The only thing you need is the permission slip and online application to the university nothing else

9. How are the registration fees waived if one applies online?

I need clarification. I can ask Mr. Lau who has been doing this for years.

10. Many students claim that registration online is too stressful and would rather submit paperwork. Is this acceptable?

I believe that Ms. Fernandes can help with these problems and we can ask for her help, Ms. Hodin can help or Mr. Lau can certainly help.

11. If we already have registered for another highschool/college credit class last year or this year (i.e. band), do we need to register again?

NO

12. Does the credit apply to out of state colleges and does it help with college admissions?

Yes, definitely

13. How many credits will we gain per semester?

I believe it is 3 but we can certainly confirm that with Ohlone

14. Could all answers to these questions please be sent to all Japanese 3 student's parents?

Yes.
