State Float Parade- This is a fun, creative way of expressing some of the facts that your child learned about his/her state. Floats are due on June 1. The parade will be on Friday, June 1 at 2pm. We invite you to join us. Bring a folding chair and have a seat under the trees in the grove near our classrooms.
Mrs. Bensen's Music Concert-
The fifth grade students will be performing the songs that they have
learned in music this year with Mrs. Bensen. This concert will be on
Wednesday, May 30 at 8:20am in the multi-use room.
Colonial America Day- Monday, June 11 - 8:20-2pm. Mrs. Rogers is planning this and will need volunteers to work shifts throughout the day. I will send home more details as they are made! If you are available for part of the day, please let me know. We'd love to have your help. Volunteers must be fingerprinted and cleared through the district. Please respond with whether or not you are able to donate items or volunteer.
Cafeteria News- All accounts must be current by June 1. NO CHARGING will be allowed in the month of June. If your child does not have meals available on his/her account, he/she will not be able to get a lunch.
Assessments- We are going to be taking the Curriculum Associates Math Practice 4 assessment this week. Your child's Language Arts practice 4 results are in today's Monday Envelope. The benchmark for this time of year is 70%. Students who did not reach the benchmark, should spend some extra time this summer working on reading comprehension and fluency. I have materials available if you are willing to work with your child. Please let me know if you would like materials.
Fifth Grade Promotion- Fifth grade promotion will be on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 in the Multi-Use room at 8:30am. We will have a reception after the promotion outside of the fifth grade classrooms. Students are expected to stay at school until 12:48pm. Students are still expected to attend school on Thursday, June 14.
Last Day of School- We will be dismissed at NOON on the last day of school. Please note the time!
Curriculum
Language Arts - We're working through Theme 6 in our reading series and will be continuing Bud, Not Buddy this week. This is a story about a foster child in Michigan during the Depression. Bud is searching for his father and finds a family within a group of musicians. I will also be doing fluency testing this week.
Math- We are finished with our math series. I am going to be giving a couple of report card assessments and we will working through Hands on Equations this week. This is a program that teaches algebra concepts using hands-on materials.
Science- Chapter 8 tests are in your child's Monday Envelope.
Social Studies - We are working past the Revolution and learning how our government was established.
