Goals:
*Sharing Our Humanity
*Making a difference in our community
*Connecting as a school family through active participation of all students
and staff members
Current Ideas:
Community Service Week:
Invite organizations within the community to share information
Set up outside in quad and in gym
Possibly have speakers present during day in various classrooms
Have classes get involved (ex. Mrs. Gregori's English classes do a survey,
give their opinions)
New idea submitted by Patrick Willis/Mary Lehman: Reselling used textbooks from SRJC students and
donating to charity
Community Organization Fair: March dates TBD. Frontrunners are planning...
Carnival?
Local School Partnership (possibly Brook Hill): Collecting children's books
for underfunded library
Student field trip to present and read books to children?
Donating blue jeans with our signatures inside to needy students?
Mexico? Field Trip and/or School Partnership
*Bigger impact, closer to us
Could we do something for a school in Mexico, tied to poverty and hunger?
Action Steps:
*We need to research schools and/or service opportunities in Mexico
*Investigate local opportunity at Brook Hill Elementary School
*Ask more teachers to survey students
*Brainstorm about a symbolic, school-wide task (ex. eating rice for a day)
*Contact organizations
Next Meeting Date: probably first Wednesday after break during lunch in
January, to be announced...
