How are birthdays celebrated in 2nd grade?
Birthday are so much fun. We celebrate them at 10:00 recess. You may provide any type of sweet treat that you and your child decide on (cupcakes, brownies, cookies, etc.) and bring it to class in the morning when you arrive at school. Your child and I will give it out to the class at recess, where we will sing, "Happy Birthday" (in English and Hebrew) and enjoy the treat. Optional: You may also provide juice boxes.Back to Top
Tuesday night dictionary homework is very challenging, any suggestions?
In the beginning of the school year we learned how a dictionary is set-up, how to find words and their meanings, where to find what part of speech the word is (noun, verb, adjective, etc.) and we worked on having the meanings make sense. We have been doing this homework in class each week there has been Challenge Words as part of our Spelling list (since September 10). By now your child should be familiar with the required format and how to find the words. You can help your child by working with them to find the words and their meanings. If this becomes too stressful, please have your child come to me with their incomplete homework and I will try to sort out the problem. Do not let this become a high stress evening for you and your child. They can complete their work during morning recess after I help them with what they didn't understand.Back to Top
How many field trips does 2nd grade go on?
Field trips need to be relevant to their learning. We go on two off-site trips during the year. One is to Sea World, after our reading of the book, Mr. Popper's Penguins, and our study of Antarctica and the other continents. This trip is through Sea World's Education Dept. and is a 90 minute in depth experience dealing with Penguins. The other trip is to hear the Disneyland Band. This is in conjunction with one of our Language Arts units where the theme is, "Creative Teams Produce Great Performances."Back to Top
