January will be an exciting month in First Grade. We will begin our study of
the community and our Community Helpers. Each child will be asked to choose
a Community Helper they would like to research. They will come to school
dressed as their Community Helper and report on their job. After each
presentation the Community Helper will answer questions asked by their
classmates about their job.
We will continue our study in science about hibernation, migration, and
adaption. We are going to help a bear build her cave to get settled in for
hibernation. Hopefully ther will be a surprise for us when she comes out to
see us in spring. Wait and see.
This study of bears will be followed by our core literature unit on the
wonderful children's book Corduroy by Don Freeman, and a Teddy Bear sleepover.
