Welcome to the Home of the Panthers!

As a proud part of the Columbia School District, our mission is to ensure learning for all...no limits, no excuses!

Congratulations to January's Students of the Month: Jacob Torvick (6th Grade), Taylor Ross (7th Grade), and Courtney Taylor (8th Grade)!
Message from Mr. Freeman

January is gone and February is loading up to be a great month at MVMS. The boys basketball season is marching along and this week they will take on West Cottonwood and Grant. Good luck guys. This week we will be finishing up with our Pennies for Patients Drive with our Think Big Challenges and the opportunity on Monday to toss saucy marshmallows at me. We have our Yearbook class that has officially started and they meet on Fridays during 7th period. Looking ahead to next week, we will have our Academic Awards for the first semester on 2/9-2/11. Parents are invited to join with us as we celebrate the outstanding academic achievement of our students. I am looking forward to a great month at MVMS as we roll out January and bring in February. Enjoy the ride and GO PANTHERS!

MVMS Library Open Early

To help students get in out of the cold and hit the books early, we will be opening the library beginning at 7:45 Monday through Friday. Students are welcome to come in to work on school work, get help on homework, read, or just hang out with friends. It's the place to be!

Pennies for Patients

Pennies for Patients Fundraiser ends this week! We are encouraging all MVMS students and staff to get together to support the fight against Leukemia. Link Crew has delivered boxes to classrooms and our competition will be between 4th periods. Bring in pennies, nickels, dimes…it all adds up to help support leukemia and lymphoma cancer research. The winning class will receive a pizza party. Don't forget about the "Think Big" challenges and the Marshmallow toss on Monday. This is your chance to sauce up a marshmallow with ketchup, mustard, or chocolate (why not all three!) and toss it our very own Mr. Freeman. It is a great cause and a once in a lifetime opportunity. Remember, we are trying to beat our best year of just under $3,000. We can do it!

Calling for 8th Grade Pictures

For the end of the year festivities, we will be producing a special DVD slide show featuring our very own graduating Class of 2010. We are asking for each 8th grade student to turn in a childhood picture and a current favorite picture. Pictures can be emailed to Mrs. Dawn Abney at dabney@columbiasd.com or students can turn them in to the Main Office. Please turn in pictures as soon as possible!

H1N1 Reminder

If you missed the H1N1 flu vaccine clinics held at various north state schools in the fall – or if your child age 9 or under didn’t get a second dose – it’s not too late. Shasta County Health Officer Dr. Andrew Deckert encourages all families to get vaccinated against H1N1. Vaccine is now available at many retail locations, such as local drug stores and grocery stores, making it more convenient than ever to get immunized. Your health care provider may also have the vaccine. Shasta County Public Health offers it by appointment at its main office on Breslauer Way, in addition to its regional offices in downtown Redding, Anderson, Shasta Lake and Burney. Protect yourself and stay healthy! Visit www.shastaflushots.com for more information.
