Indian Culture Box

 

Instructions:

Complete one PARTNER PROJECT and one INDIVIDUAL PROJECT.

 

All information can be found in our textbooks, the old textbooks, and the Internet. Everything you write  must be put into your own words. ‘Cut and Paste’ is cheating.

 

PARTNER PROJECTS Choose a partner from within your group and do one of these projects. The group can only do one of each. The group does not have to do all the partner projects

 

  1. Draw a map of India, including mountains, deserts, major cities and rivers. (see page 223, old text)
  2. Make a front page newspaper report about the arrival of the Aryans. Include – 1. Where they came from. 2. Beliefs and religion. 3. Social classes. Look at a newspaper for ideas on how to make it look like a newspaper (headlines, columns, images, etc.)
  3. Act out or videotape a T.V. interview between a news reporter and a Hindu. Include questions and answers about – 1. Caste and Duty, 2. Reincarnation, 3. Karma, 4. Beliefs.

 

INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS Each member chooses a different one.

 

  1. MAKE two objects that describe the IMPORTANT beliefs of Buddhism. Include an explanation of each object. These could be documents, statues, or other objects.
  2. Record a weather report. Include different regions and climate.
  3. Bring four objects actually from India and write a paragraph about each.
  4. Write a mini-dictionary with meanings of the following words: karma, silt, Aryan, caste, Gandhi, Hinduism, guild, epic. It should look exactly like a little dictionary, but only include those words. Look at a real dictionary so you know how to lay it out. The definitions must be in your own words and must include at least one definition per word that focuses on the connection between the word and India.
  5. Write a diary entry from a critical day in the life of Asoka
    (pronounced “ah SHO ka”)
  6. Make a list of the important accomplishments of the Gupta Empire. Explain what each accomplishment was and why it was important.

 

GROUP PROJECT Make and decorate a box or other container to hold all the projects.
