NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER
Happy Thanksgiving! Congratulations go to all students for completing the Autobiography Project. I
truly enjoyed reading them all, and learning about your lives!
END OF TRIMESTER
First trimester ends this Friday, November 6. All extra credit for first trimester is due on this day.
Monday, November 9, we are starting fresh with second trimester. All grades are wiped clean, and we
will be setting academic goals for this trimester.
CURVED GRADES
I curve most grades in our class due to the difficulty of material. If your child comes home and tells
you that they received “extra points,” they are probably right. I do this when a test/activity is so
difficult, that no-one in the class scores over a certain percentage. This “evens out” the scores, and
makes the grade more fair.
COLONIAL LIFE PROJECT
We have started this project in class today, November 2. The due date is Friday, December 4. The
information is on my website under “homework.”
WEBSITE
Remember to check grades on our class website. All updated information, along with long-term
projects are also posted here. It’s the best way to get up-to-date information!
Go to nwds.com. Click on “Faculty,” then “Teachers.” Click on “Web” next to “Greg Potter.”
SANTA’S WORKSHOP
We are starting to collect items for our upcoming “Santa’s Workshop” sale to benefit our class on
December 16. Please bring those items in as soon as possible!
BOXED LUNCH SOCIAL
This year our class will be celebrating Thanksgiving by sharing in an old fashion Box Lunch Social on
Wednesday, November 18th, at lunchtime. Each student is to bring a lunch in a decorated box or
bag. To ensure that the lunches are equal, we ask that you include a sandwich, fruit, drink, napkin,
and dessert. (You may wish to add a little surprise sticker, pencil or eraser to your box or bag.) The
box/bag should not have the student’s name on it – each lunch will be numbered, instead. The
children will draw a number and enjoy the lunch made by that class member. Please use all of your
creative powers in the outside decoration of your container, as they will be on display all morning for
everyone to enjoy.
