Important Dates:
9-13 Half days/parent conferences
11th Veteran’s Day- no school
23-27 No school/Thanksgiving

Theme: Our theme this month is “Giving Thanks”.
In Social Studies we will be continuing our work with maps and learning about
the pilgrims and their journey to this “New World”. We will take a close
look at the Mayflower and we will be looking into why they made this
journey. We will investigate what life was like for pilgrim boys and girls
and what life was like for them. We’ll even learn what the first
Thanksgiving meal really was!
In science we will continue our investigation of rocks so keep bringing in
those unique samples.
We will also continue our visits to C.S.U.C. for our movement exploration
sessions.
In math we will continue double digit addition and subtraction with
renaming “borrowing and carrying”. We will then move into our triple digits
and explore numbers in the hundreds place. Keep up the work on those math
facts so that in December as we move into triple digit subtraction/addition
with renaming we can move easily through the process and continue to build
confidence!
In language arts we will continue our focus on writing complete sentences and
will continue to expand our story writing process. At this time our process
includes clustering and webbing our ideas, writing a rough draft,
proofreading, writing a final copy and illustrating/publishing. Our super
sentences include sense descriptive words (size, shape, color, quality and
traits) and vigorous verbs. In reading we will continue our work in
comprehension as we focus on the higher cognitive levels of thinking.
Questioning and activities center around recall, application, synthesis, and
evaluation. We continue to work on our phonograms, spelling rules, and
grammar. We will also continue work with syllable identification, compound
words and rhyming.
I’m looking forward to our conference time together and wish each of you a
wonderful Thanksgiving!
Ms. Givens
