Dear Parents,

This month in Science we will study and learn about plants. Students are encouraged to bring in seeds.
We are also learning and celebrating Earth Day. Students are working on making a model of the earth and labeling the continents and  oceans.

In reading we start our new story, "If You Give a Pig a Pancake."  Student are loving this story and will be reading the story to the kindergarten students.  They are excited and eager to read to an audience.  The students are in the process of selecting a poem to memorize and perform at the first grade poetry festival.  I am very proud of the students' eagerness to perform on stage.

In math this week we will continue to work on fractions.  Students are doing very well mastering this concept.  I encourage the students to continue working on memorizing the math addition facts.  There are still many students that are not passing the two minute fact test. Please practice flash cards.  Mastery of the addition math facts will help them in second grade.  We will begin the subtraction daily two minute fact test next week.  Only those students who have passed all levels (1 through 9) will move on to subtraction.

We are learning how to take standardized test. The students will be taken the ITBS test next year in second grade.  We are learning strategies on how to solve test questions.  Please review concepts that your child misses on the test.
