From Mr. Macdonald:   Thanks to everyone who spent the morning at O’Hara for Make a Difference Day.  We planted Jasmine in the sixth grade common area, removed dead trees and pruned many others that needed thinning or were leaning on buildings, painted a few walls in the office, power washed concrete around the gym/office/picnic tables and repaired three elevated wooden walkways.  Special thanks to Kathy Reinders and Denise Warren who organized the event and secured donations for coffee, snacks, waters, plants and topsoil.  Truly a fun and rewarding day!

Information regarding flu season came home attached to this newsletter – additionally there is information on our website and know that you can always call me if you have questions on how we are prepared to keep our students and staff healthy.

Proposed Middle School Boundary Change

Since Delta Vista Middle School opened in 2001 it has continued to grow and currently has over 900 students.  Over the same period of time O’Hara Park Middle School has remained fairly constant ranging between 794 and 739 students.  We currently have 739 students.

Rose Avenue is currently the northern boundary for O’Hara Park.  The District’s plan has always been, when appropriate, to make Main St/Highway 4 the boundary between Delta Vista and O’Hara Park.  It appears the start of the next school year , the time will be appropriate.

The guideline principles for this change are as follows:

1.                   Minimize the possibility that in the long term a neighborhood or boundary would have to be changed back to a current school.

2.                   Create balance, or as close as possible, between the number of students at each middle school.

3.                Phase in grade levels as to minimize any disruption to families.

As you will note from number 3 above current students at Delta Vista and younger siblings will be allowed to stay at the school.  The change will be phased in.

The superintendent will conduct an informational meeting to discuss this change in greater detail.  This
meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on November 9th in the library at Gehringer Elementary School
.

Please refrain from texting your child information during school hours and speak to your child about always informing the office first if they are not feeling well or have a problem.  For the respect of all staff and students, phones should be off during the curriculum hours .
