Do I have to know my addition and subtraction facts to 18?
Yes, you need to know your facts and be able to recall them quickly.
You will have a timed test every month and should be able to do 50
problems in 3 minutes.
When do we do music?
Mrs.Susan Kates, an excellent experienced music teacher, will be with
the third graders on Tuesdays.
When do we meet with our kindergarten buddies?
In December we will help them with their cranberry investigation and exchange holiday cards with
them. We will also exchange holiday cards with them.
What are we doing for art this month?
In December we will be making Hanukkah and gingerbread girl/boy art.
What are we going to be doing in MAC lab this month?
We will be finished up our animal adaptation, practicing keyboarding, and doing a Time
For Kids scavenger hunt.
What is D.E.A.R.?
Drop Everything And Read for 20-30 minutes every night. It could be silent
reading, reading to your family, or taking turn listening to a story and
reading it to a family member.
Should I be practicing my multiplication and division facts?
You should be starting to memorize your multiplication fact. The first timed test is in January.
What are we doing in science?
We have started the physical science unit, Matter and Energy.
What are we doing in social studies?
In December and January we will be preparing for the Famous American book report. It will be
presented in late January. We will be reading in our geography book about American heroes.
When are dictation tests?
Dictation/spelling tests are every Friday. The dictation words come home on the
every Monday stapled to the quiz from the previous week.

What shoes are appropriate?
Please always wear good running shoes. Be prepared to have P.E. everyday. Crocs, Uggs, flip-flops,
and boots are not appropriate shoes for school.
What about hats?
I strongly encourage wearing a hat everyday to protect your face on the playground at recess and
lunch. I have a special cubby in the back of the room to store them. And don't forget the
sunscreen!
