Mrs. Munson:
6th Grade
A little about me...
Well, I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in the 6th grade, and
everything that I have done since that point has been to better prepare me
for the place that I am in right now. My earliest experiences with children
occurred within my home. My mom provided childcare since I was a little
girl, and continued until I was 18 years old. I was able to interact with
children in several different ways during that time. After graduating from
High School and while I was in college, I began working for the City of
Irvine, in their day care facilities. I worked for Turtle Rock Community
Park. There I worked with children grades kindergarten through 6th. I was
promoted to the Assistant Director position and was put in charge of the 4-6
grade program.
After working there for over 4 years, I entered the credential program at
Cal State Fullerton and began my student teaching. My first student teaching
experience was in a 1st grade classroom in Santa Ana for English Language
Learners. My next placement was in Irvine in a 4th grade classroom. After
completing my credential program, I applied for a position in the Irvine
Unified School District.
I was very excited when I got an interview for a position at Oak Creek.
Something that you might not know about me is that I grew up in Irvine and
went to Los Naranjos as a young child. It had been one of my lifetime goals
to teach with the teachers that had taught me and had made such a huge
impact on my life. And, since the majority of the Los Naranjos teachers were
now teaching at Oak Creek, I realized that my dream was within my reach. I
was really excited when I received the position.
As soon as I walked into the school, I was instantly welcomed by familiar
faces. My first position was a k-2 combo for English Language Learners.
During my second year at Oak Creek I taught 2nd grade.
At the end of the school year Oak Creek had declining enrollment due to the
opening of a neighborhood school, and so I along with some of my fellow
collegues, was in search of a new position. I was given a kindergarten
position at Turtle Rock Elementary school, here in Irvine. It was a
wonderful experience to work at a different school. I learned many new and
powerful tools for teaching, however something was missing. I missed my
friends, my mentors, and the community surrounding Oak Creek.
Two years ago, I was able to fulfill one of my lifelong goals... teach 6th
grade. It was an amazing year filled with laughter, fun, and learning. I am
so excited to be teaching 6th grade again this year. I look forward to a
great year.
