Dear Families,
I want to give a BIG thank you to Mrs. Costamagna for bringing in a cow heart and lungs on Thursday. She let the kids "glove up" and touch the organs and then she used a shop vac to inflate the lungs. It was SO amazing to see the bronchioles doing what we had studied!
I also want to thank our three moms, Mrs. Zinser, Mrs. Malde, and Ms. Cavanaugh for giving up their morning yesterday to help us with colonial craft stations. I think the kids had a fun time even with some of the frustrations we had. It gave them some sense of how hard colonists had to work!
We had some very courageous fifth graders who participated in yesterday's Student Spotlight: Amy, Allison, Sophia C., Daniel N., and Daniel K. It was a lot of fun to see the school spirit supporting these talented students!
Let's all congratulate the fifth grade spelling team for winning second place (against sixth graders) in the County Spelling Bee. Yashmita and Amy worked VERY hard to prepare for the big event!
We've been moving forward in history, studying the Seven Year War and learning more about the colonists' attitudes in the 1750's. Next week we'll be learning about the events that led to the Revolutionary War. Each group of students will be responsible for one step to war: researching, making a brief poster, and presenting the information to the class. There will be a quiz by the end of the week.
We're finished with science now. I just have to grade the rest of the Digestive Cartoons and then I'll have "almost final" grades. The science fair project will be included in the final grade.
In math, we spent time last week on percents. Next week we'll be going back to functions and graphing skills. The students should then be ready for the District End of Year math test.
We'll be having a test on Prepositions and Adverbs on Wednesday. I'll review the unit on Monday and Tuesday. It's not a difficult test.
That's it for now. Hope you have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Debbie Palmer
