Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/ Teacher conferences are scheduled to take place the first 2 weeks of December. Teachers will be contacting you to confirm an appointment to meet and discuss your child's progress in school. Teachers will be out of the classroom for two days in order to meet with you. Please be on time and see your child's teacher if you need to make special arrangements.
Student Assessments
Preschool educators have been evaluating children and completing the Basic Skills assessment which includes: letter sounds, letter names, patterns, rote counting, 1-1 correspondence counting, colors, shapes, and concepts of print. Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP-R) is another assessment used to help prepare our preschoolers for kindergarten. This is a tool used to assess student progress. Our teachers plan activities to help children master the skills needed. Teachers may write observational anecdotal notes on your child, take pictures of your child engaged in an activity or save child's work for classroom portfolios. These are some of the methods used to collect information and track the developmental growth of your child. These assessments are completed two times per year, once in the Fall and again in the Spring.
Translators Needed
OVSD is in need of Vietnamese Translators. If you are interested please contact Classified Personnel as soon as possible for an application. (714) 847-2551.
Parent Advisory Committee
Thank you to the PAC for a successful Harvest Parade. PAC board members and parent volunteers helped to organize the annual event. Parents made beautiful decorations including decorative walls for families to take photos. The children enjoyed parading around in their class-made costumes and performing for their parents and siblings.

Classroom Parent Volunteers
The coordinator and staff expect all parent volunteers to show discretion and confidentiality regarding the children's achievement, ability and behavior in the classroom. Sometimes children share information with volunteers that may be about private family matters. There may be a time when a child shares something with you that causes you some concern, such as matters about their personal safety. If this is the case, please immediately contact the classroom teacher or coordinator. Oak View Preschool personnel will know how to follow proper procedures to deal with the situation. Please respect all children and their personal rights. Parent volunteers must realize that any evaluation of a child's behavior or progress at school is the responsibility of the professional staff. Do not share information with parents about their child's day at the end of your volunteer session. That would be the teacher's responsibility.
Emergency Update
Food and water has been purchased for all children in case of an emergency. All emergency supplies and food is kept in the blue school emergency container next to the playground.
Important: Parents please make note that our emergency evacuation has changed. Our preschool children will no longer be dismissed from the Nichols gate located toward the back side of our school. In case of an emergency our headquarters and student release area will be at the gate next to Room 1 and the parking lot facing the front of the school.
Parking Lot Reminders
For the safety of our preschoolers we ask that if you are walking to school please use the sidewalks and not cross through the parking lot. Always hold your child's hand. Handicapped spaces are reserved for only those with a handicapped parking tag. Vehicles may not stop in the red fire lanes, leave your car unattended or block others by stopping to drop-off or pick-up in non-designated areas. We ask for you to please follow the white arrows painted on the ground to help move the flow of traffic in the correct direction. Tickets may be given to those who choose to violate traffic rules by the H.B. Police Parking Control officers (714) 960-8825. Thank you for your cooperation.
Harvest of the Month
Oak View Preschool is networking with the Healthy California Harvest of the Month Program. This program encourages children to try new foods through taste test and cooking activities. They use a low pressure approach to encourage children to taste new fruits and vegetables. Tasting is incorporated into planned lessons to help children develop a sense of what they like and expand their eating horizons. Harvest of the Month will also be presenting Nation wide statistical information about the importance of adapting a program like this in schools at our preschool parent meetings.
Talking and Listening
Encourage your preschooler to show gratitude
Being thankful is more than a courtesy. It's a mind set that changes how kids look at life. To help your preschooler enjoy gratitude:
· Say thanks with pictures. Have your child draw pictures of things he appreciates.
· Role-play. Act out situations that involve thanks. What should your child say when he receives a present? What if he already has the item? What if he doesn't like it?
· Be creative. Help your child make and send thank-you cards. Encourage him to give thanks by saying kind words and doing favors.
