Students may earn up to 10% extra credit by visiting the Civil War Re-
enactment at Gibson Ranch. To earn the full 10% students should stay long
enough to see one battle and interview at least 5 participants. They should
think up several interview questions and either get a participants signature

1.Read a book or watch a video that relates the curriculum covered
during eighth grade US History or English and complete an extended
reading/viewing project (guidelines below.) [1% - 5%]
2.Visit a local museum and write a one page report. Choose one aspect
of the museum on which to focus your writing, for example, research one of
the artist or the times in which they lived. [1% - 5%]

3.Research someone we study this year (for example, one of the framers
of the Constitution, an author of one of our piecies of literature or even a
current government official) and write a 1 - 2 page biography. [1-5%]
4.Have a discussion with a parent about one of our topics of study.
Ask them what they remember about the topic or book from their studies.
Write a reflection on the topic and your discussion and have your parent
sign it.

Extended Reading or Movie Project Guidelines
Write a 1 - 2 page paper on the following four points:
Summary - Provide a short summary of the book or movie.
Relevance to Curriculum - How does the book or movie relate to what we are
studying this quarter?
Historical Accuracy - Choose two events/people/places in the book for
accuracy.
[Book]Author - Who is the author? Lis some previous works. Did you like
the
style in which the book was written? Would you recommend the book?
[Movie] Write a movie review.
Remember that you need to get parent approval before watching any movie and
you need to complete the assignment to get credit. These are just
a few suggestions – there are many more you could do. Any movie you choose
needs to relate to our curriculum.
