I'm concerned about Outdoor Ed. Do I have to go?

Outdoor Education is part of the fifth grade curriculum for San Mateo County
and other parts of the country. It is an incredible experience that you will
cherish and I highly recommend that all students be allowed to participate.
Plus, I will be there if you need a helping hand!

Why do you make me put everything into a binder?

The binder system is one that you will use in middle school and beyond.
Since this is your last year before you go to middle school, we fifth grade
teachers feel that now is the perfect time to learn how to keep an organized
binder. Trust me, it will help you tremendously in the future!

If you break one rule, your name goes on the board. If you break two rules
in one day, you get a check placed by your name and must serve a detention
through beautification of the school during your recess.

What is the point of doing homework?

Homework is really important because it gives you a chance to practice what
we learned in school. The spelling packet is essential because by doing the
different assignments, you get to learn your spelling words.

Why do we do Trash Patrol?

As fifth grade students, you set an example for the younger students through
your positive actions. Cleaning up the schoolyard helps our local animals
thrive, keeps our oceans clean, and shows our Ortega Otters pride!
