FIELD TRIP TO
THE CANTOR CENTER FOR VISUAL ARTS
MATISSE/ PICASSO/ O’KEEFFE/ WARHOL
Our first field trip of the year is next week! We will be visiting a special
exhibit at the Cantor
museum on the Stanford Campus. This show, “Spared From the Storm” is on loan
from the Museum
Of Art in New Orleans and features works by many of the modern artists we have
been studying
about in class, including Monet, Matisse and Pollock! The exhibit closes
soon, so it’s now or never!
We’ll use a scavenger hunt to focus our visit.
WHO? Room 17 students and parent driver/chaperones
WHAT? Special Exhibit and Permanent Collection
WHERE? Cantor Center for Visual Arts on the Stanford Campus
WHEN? Thursday, October 2nd from 10:30 – 1:00
WHY? To see real examples by the artists we’ve been studying
HOW? We’ll tour the collections in small parent and teacher led groups
Transportation will be by private vehicle
Entrance to the museum is free, and parents who drive will be reimbursed for
parking expenses. We
will plan to picnic after our visit to the museum.

card up-dated in the
school office. Thank you in advance to parent volunteers without whom we
would not be able to

Parents’ Evening:
Helping Your Child Master the Basic Math Facts
Join me Tuesday evening for ideas and strategies to help your child master the
basic math facts.
When: Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Room 17
Who: 4th grade parents
Why: Students must have the basic math facts (addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division)
memorized to have success in the 4th grade math program.
You’ll learn the best way to use flash cards, card games, on-line resources
and other ideas to help
your
child master the basic math facts.
See you Tuesday!

Students will take the ERB Writing Assessment on September 23rd and 24th.
Given a broad writing
prompt, children will have one hour on Tuesday to write a rough draft and on
the following day will
edit
and produce a final draft which will be scored by a professional testing
service. Results will be
mailed
directly to you. Please expect a delay of several months. Details of this
assessment were sent in a
flyer
along with the regular homework packet on Monday.
The second homework packet is due on Monday, September 22. Wordly Wise Unit 2
and story are
due
on Monday, September 29. Please do not return the Wordly Wise book until that
date. The quiz will
be
on Thursday, September 25.
