==============================================================================
ATTENDANCE:
- If you’re not here regularly, you cannot participate in the learning
process or complete the assignments you need to in order to be successful
in my class. Poor attendance will hurt your grade.
- Unexcused absences result in detentions. If these detentions are not
served your grade will be lowered by one grade level, per PHS policy.
- I expect you to be in the classroom before the final bell rings. If you
can’t do this you will be given a tardy. Just like unexcused absences,
these can end up hurting your grade and result in detentions.
- One detention is assigned for every three unexcused tardies. If they are
not served your grade will be lowered by one grade level, per PHS policy.
==============================================================================
PARTICIPATION:
- If I call on you I expect you to participate. Failure to do so will make
it hard to learn and get the grade you probably want. Hint to the wise: I
won’t simply move on to another student just because you are unprepared.
- Participation includes, but is not limited to, volunteering during class
discussions, answering questions, and being a positive part of the class.
- Negative participation includes such things as disruptive behavior,
copying the work of other students, cheating, and not being prepared.
==============================================================================
RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY:
- Show common courtesy and respect and consider the feelings of others
before you speak or act. Teasing, insults, harassment, and profanity have
no place in the classroom and will not be tolerated.
- Treat me with respect and I promise you will receive the same from me.
==============================================================================
CHEATING:
- You can only succeed if you work hard and apply yourself. If you cheat,
you can’t learn what you need to.
- Cheating is never an acceptable solution for not being prepared. I have a
zero tolerance policy concerning cheating... let's don't go there. Doing
so will result in a score of zero for that assignment and a call home to
your parents/guardians.
- If life gets in the way and you cannot complete an assignment or are not
prepared for a quiz or test, come talk to me. I will do my best to work
with you. This must the exception to the rule of being prepared. Don't
get in the habit of doing this.
==============================================================================
GENERAL:
- Sleeping: I don’t allow sleeping in my classroom… ever! Don’t lay your
head down or you may become a sleeper without intending to be. If you're
not feeling well just ask for a pass to the nurse.
- Food and drink: you may bring food and drinks to my classroom, however,
the food must not be distracting to my instruction (i.e. chips, corn nuts,
cellophane wrappings, etc).
- Gum: you may not chew gum in my classroom. Get rid of it as you enter the
room so it doesn’t become an issue we have to deal with.
- CD players and other electronic devices: you may not use them in my
classroom unless I specifically say so. Keep them turned off and out of
sight. If I see or hear it I will confiscate it and turn it over to one of
the principals (you may refer to your Student Handbook if you have any
questions about this policy).
- Cell phones, beepers, etc: you may not use them during instructional time.
You are permitted to use them during lunch and passing periods. If you
have one, remember to turn it off and keep it out of sight while in my
classroom. If I see or hear it I will confiscate it and turn it over to
one of the principals (you may refer to your Student Handbook if you have
any questions about this policy).
- Hall passes: you must have a hall pass signed by me if you want to leave
the classroom during the class period. If you need one you can get them
from my desk. Fill it out and then ask for my signature. I only allow
one student out of the room at a time, so if someone else is on a pass,
don't ask to go until they've returned.
- Grading: grades are based on class participation, in-class assignments,
projects, homework, and tests. I use a standard grading scale:
A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = 59% and below
- Make-up work:
Excused absences: work must be made up within the number of days that you
were absent. It is your responsibility to find out what was missed and to
obtain it in a timely manner.
Unexcused absences: whwther or not you will be given the opportunity to
make up any work you missed is at my discretion. I will take into account
your class participation, behaivior, and attitude in making my decision.
- Late work: I will accept late work, but at a penalty of 10% off for each
day it is late. The exception to the 10% penalty is that you will not
receive this penalty if your failure to turn in the assignment on time was
due to an excused absence that day.
I will nolt accept late work after 10 days or after the assignment has
been graded and returned to the class.
