Turnitin.com Instructions



Follow these instructions to create your turnitin.com account and to submit 
an essay.  When you are finished, go to the turnitin.com home page




Instructions for logging on to and submitting your paper on turnitin.com:


1. Go to the web site http://turnitin.com. You will see the home page. 
Click: “New Users,” and on the next page, under “New students start here,” 
choose “create a user profile.”


2. On the next screen you will be asked which type of account you need to 
create. Select “student.” You will then need to enter the class ID number and 
password for your class. Use the information below: 
Select the class and period that you are in, and enter the following:

You can also use these numbers to “join a class” if you already have a user 
profile from a previous class.


3. You will then be asked to enter a valid email address. Use one that you 
have easy access to. 
If you do not have an email address, you may get one for free at the yahoo or 
hotmail websites. If this is not a possibility for you, you may bring your 
assignment to me on a disc and I can submit it for you.


4. Next you will need to select a profile password. Please keep in mind that 
your password is case sensitive (for example, paSS123 would be different than 
pass123), must be 6-12 characters long, and contain at least one letter and 
one number (for added security). You will also be asked to choose a security 
question in case you forget your password. Make sure you record all of this 
information in a secure place. You could record this in your English notebook 
or planner so you will have the information when you need to submit your 
essays.


5. After your information is submitted and processed, you will be asked to 
log in again using the new information. You can now select an assignment 
listed and submit your essay.


6. Select the assignment from the list, click “submit,” and follow the 
instructions. You will need to either upload your file from your computer or 
disc using the Browse button, OR you may cut and paste your paper into the 
windows on the submit page, but DO NOT DO BOTH! 
Using the “browse” function retains all your document formatting, and is 
really the best way to submit your work.


7. After submitting your paper, you will be given a Digital Receipt Number. 
RECORD THIS NUMBER OR PRINT OUT THE PAGE AS PROOF OF YOUR SUBMISSION. In case 
something goes wrong you can later prove that you did in fact turn in your 
paper on time.


8. Usually within 24 hours you will be able to view your evaluated and 
processed paper.
