Media Center

Please Note:  Our classroom library day is Weds. Please remind your child to return books on this day in order to be able to check out new books for the following week. If your child is still completing a book, a book can be checked out for 2 weeks.

Our Media Center Mission is to teach our students the information literacy skills necessary to access and evaluate information, to use it accurately, creatively, and ethically to provide a wide variety of materials to support the curriculum, and to encourage a life-long love of reading.

Resources

Ø  Circulating collection of over 15,000 books

Ø  Media Center Homepage and online catalog for our collection at http://destiny.iusd.org/

Ø  Reference collection of print encyclopedias, atlases and dictionaries and collective biographies.

Instructional resources

Ø  Information literacy instruction includes utilizing resources beyond the Media Center walls including the collections and databases of Orange County Public Library and Newport Beach Public Library. Students should have cards, available for free, for these libraries. Links to these libraries are on our media center homepage.

Policies

Ø  Students have access to the Media Center when they come with their teacher during their scheduled time.

Ø  Students in 3rd-5th Grades may check out any number of books that they can reasonably read in 1-2 weeks. Books may be renewed but must be presented to do so. Students with late books will not be allowed to continue checking out until their books are renewed or returned.

Ø  Fines are collected for lost or damaged books. Report cards and borrowing privileges may be withheld until late books/fines are collected.

Ø  Volunteers are crucial to maintaining open circulation as we circulate 6000-8000 books each month. Volunteers are needed to shelve and process new books. Please consider being a Media Center Volunteer!
