Reading is a very important part of 3rd grade. In order to better develop an appreciation for reading and build up reading stamina and growth, your child should be reading on a daily basis a minimum of 30 minutes.
To help you select appropriate books, monthly book order forms from Scholastic Book Clubs will be sent home. There are forms for different grade levels as well as for Science, Math, special themes, and computer software to support reading skills, etc. A large selection of reasonably priced materials is available. Although there is no requirement that you buy these books, they are highly recommended.
If you choose to purchase books from any list, please mark your choices, put your child’s name on the list, and total the prices of your books. Please write one check out to “Scholastic Book Clubs” and attach to the forms from which you are ordering. NO CASH PLEASE.
Books arrive in one to two weeks from the closing date of the order. If you are ordering the books as a surprise, please let me know so I can put them in a box or a bag stapled shut. They make wonderful gifts and rewards!
Whether or not you choose to order books, the importance of reading daily to or with your child cannot be emphasized enough. Please be your child's partner in building an appreciation for reading!
MS. KATSUDA'S RECOMMENDATION TO ENSURE SUCCESSFUL LEARNING: Please buy a dictionary and Thesaurus that is suitable for third-grade level. The Scholastic Dictionary and Thesaurus in our book orders are a wonderful choice! Please make sure your child has these books accessible and is using these "reference" books FREQUENTLY when reading. It builds your child's vocabulary, spelling, and is an especially valuable tool if your child is speaking another language at home.
