THIS WEEK'S HOMEWORK Monday: Reading: Reading Log Math: Review for test - get parent signature Writing: Spelling Practice book pg. 375-376, Spelling Sentences Social Studies: Continue Agriculture note taking Science: Spellingcity.com Firstinmath.com Your child has a Homework Planner that should be kept in the front of his/her notebook. Daily homework will also be entered at Plaza Vista's web site on my class page at the end of each school day. Assignments that are not completed in class should be recorded and finished at home. They are due the next day. In addition, most students will need to study their spelling words and the multiplication tables several times a week. Independent reading should also be a regular part of your child’s homework. There will be other assignments, which should be done completely at home. Your child will never be asked to do a homework assignment unless it has been thoroughly explained at school. Please encourage your child to work independently. You may wish to look over the work after it is complete, but please resist the temptation to make it “perfect.” We want each student to become an independent worker and to assume responsibility for his/her education. If homework regularly takes longer than one hour to complete, please let me know. Also, if there are special circumstances which prevent your child from completing an assignment, I would appreciate a note from you. GRADING Most daily assignments must be completed by the following day to receive full credit. Work not turned in on time will receive a lower grade. There are three ways in which a paper may be graded: (1) percentage, (2) letter grade, or (3) subjective comments. All grades will be recorded in my grade book to be averaged for report cards. Students are involved in correcting some of their own work. This self- correcting process enables a child to develop proofreading skills and provides immediate feedback of errors. The teacher will see all work. Some guided practice papers will not be collected but will be looked at while the students are working.
