What does “PTA” mean?
PTA is the acronym for Parent Teacher Association.
Why should I join PTA?
You support and become a part of an organization that
* Raises funds for and coordinates support for teachers and
school programs.
* Provides a forum for family-school communication.
* Hosts events for school community building.
Your membership lends additional weight to advocacy efforts
carried out by PTA at the local, state, and national levels.
The higher the number of members, the more the decision makers
listen to PTA representatives advocating for schools and students.
Membership allows you to vote in PTA elections, and to serve on
the board. And membership also includes a Plaza Vista School
Directory (like a school phone book).
We hope your membership will also help you feel more invested and
involved in Plaza Vista and the school community, and that it
will be a way to get to know other Plaza Vista families and
communicate better with school staff.
How much does it cost to join PTA?
Membership dues are $12 for one membership (includes one school
directory), $18 for a dual membership (two people in one
household, includes one school directory).
What are my dues used for?
About $4.25 per member is used for local and national dues.
About $4 is used to pay for printing of the directory included in
the membership.
The remaining dues ($3-4 of an individual membership) are used to
help fund school programs.
Do I have to make a donation to the Pledge Drive to join PTA?
No. The Pledge Drive form includes the option to join PTA, but
donating is not required to join PTA.
Do I have to be a PTA member to attend PTA meetings?
No, you do not have to be a member to attend meetings. You are
welcome to come! However, non-members may not vote, nor may they
serve on the board.
Do I have to go to PTA meetings or volunteer at PTA events if I join?
No. You are under no obligation to attend meetings or volunteer.
