Welcome to another fabulous year at Poinsettia Elementary School. The school
opened its doors for the first time last year and I had the opportunity to
be a part of creating a new environment and starting something wonderful.
What a successful year it was!
This is my third full year teaching in Carlsbad Unified. My student teaching
placement was under the direction of Mr. Ahle three years ago. The woman who
taught me everything I know is none other than Mrs. Denise Hughes. I am
thrilled that I have the opportunity to teach with her. She is truly my
mentor and friend. After graduating from my Credential program, I went on to
take two long-term jobs before starting my teaching career in the Fall at
Kelly Elementary. I finished the 2006-2007 school year and was presented
with the opportunity to join Mr. Ahle in opening this school. I was thrilled
to have that opportunity as well as reunite with my previous principal and
mentor. I have been teaching First grade for nearly three years. This is
truly my FAVORITE grade! I hope to be here for years to come.
I am a native of Palm Springs but am no stranger to Carlsbad. My family and
I have vacationed here since I was young. I loved the area and always knew I
would be back. I went to college at Arizona State University where I
achieved my Bachelors degree in Communication. After graduation, I packed up
and moved to the beach! I attended Cal State San Marcos and received my
teaching credential. I have been in Carlsbad since 2004 and have no
intention of leaving.
I am more than excited for another awesome year and can’t wait to see what
2008-2009 brings us. My students are very important to me and I consider
myself a replacement of “you” while they are with me. They are my
little “duckies.” I will guide them and nurture them and teach them to
become independent, kind, silly, responsible, and confident. What a great
year 2008 -2009 will be!
I believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow and learn in a
safe and comfortable environment. I have high expectations and believe that
with the proper communication between teacher - student - and parent,
anything is attainable. I want the students do their best work possible and
follow all rules in and out of the classroom, but to also enjoy being a kid
and know that when appropriate....it is ok to be silly, laugh, and have fun.
There will plenty of time for learning and fun!
