SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC)
This is the school governance council. The School Site Council, or the SCC, is made up of five elected parents, two additional elected parents or community representatives, one appointed TEAM Pomelo representative, the Principal, the teachers union (UTLA) chair, the LEARN Lead Teacher, one elected classified representative, and four elected teachers.
The SCC responsibilities are to:
The SCC meets monthly. Please see the Calendar for the scheduled meetings. Agenda items include reports from all committees, TEAM Pomelo, and District and School events, programs and concerns. All parents are welcome to attend the SCC meetings. Terms of office shall be for one year. Elections shall be held in early fall of each year to determine the teaching staff. Parent and Community Representatives elections are held at Back to School Night. Classified and certificated Staff also hold their elections in September.
Permanent Instructional Team
Pomelo's
Instructional Team coordinates professional development to Pomelo. They
look at current teaching
practices, reviews new teaching methods and has a goal to raise
student improvement. The
instructional team monitors, assess and evaluates on a regular basis the
implementation of Pomelo's three year Single School Plan. We are in our
2nd year of our third three-year plan.
Student Council
The
California Association of Student Councils (CASC) is a student-led non-profit
organization whose purpose
is to develop leadership skills and self-esteem among students throughout the
State of
PARENT CONFERENCES
Communication between home and school is essential. If problems arise please contact the classroom teacher so that proper action may be taken to address any concerns. Parent conferences are held in November for all students, and scheduled thereafter as needed. Please call ahead to schedule teacher conferences to assure ample time to talk with the teacher.
LOITERING/TRUANCY ORDINANCE
The Los Angeles City Council and
Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors have passed a Loitering/Truancy
Ordinance that is presently in effect.
In
essence, the ordinance prohibits any person under the age of 18 and subject to
compulsory school attendance, from loitering in or upon the public streets,
highways, roads, alleys, parks, playground, or other public grounds between
the hours of
The exceptions to this are as follows:
· a student is accompanied by a parent or guardian
· a student is on an emergency errand directed by a parent or guardian
· a student is going or coming directly from their place of gainful employment
· a student is going or returning from a medical appointment
· a student has permission to leave campus for lunch and has in his/her possession a school issued permit
· a student is going to or returning from a public meeting
